Auction details
Finarte, in collaboration with Urania Casa d’Aste, presents a special auction dedicated to two of the most beloved heroines of Japanese animation and comics: Candy Candy and Lady Oscar.
With an extensive catalogue of almost 500 lots, you can rediscover two unforgettable icons of 1970s and 1980s pop culture.
Lots 1–103: Lady Oscar
Lots 104–498: Candy Candy
Oscar was born into the aristocracy, raised as a man to serve the crown; Candy is an orphan who grew up without privilege, forced to carve out her own place in the world. Their true battle is not only against the historical or social context, but against the limits that others seek to impose on their identities.
Aesthetically, the two works belong to the golden age of shojo manga in the 1970s: large, expressive eyes, lyrical compositions, attention to floral details and a visual language capable of transforming emotions into poetic images. Both Riyoko Ikeda (author of Lady Oscar) and Yumiko Igarashi (author of Candy Candy) helped to define a visual style that would profoundly influence Japanese animation and comics in the decades that followed.
