Interesting historical document probably from the Mantua area, datable to the beginning of the 16th century within the period before 1530. Three sheets written on the recto, 305 x 205 mm., containing lists of guests invited to unspecified weddings, on the back of one of the sheets is written "lista de parenti"; enclosed is another sheet of the same size and period, with a list of "Robbe datte a la sposa" which bears a receipt dated 1530 at the bottom.

Specialist Notes

It is not easy to identify which wedding it is but certainly, from the guest list, it must have been a noble family from Mantua well introduced in the Italian nobility. In the list of relatives we read: Catarina Friza, Ursina de Uberti, Zorzo Brognolo, Lucia Stangha, Iacomo Suardo etc. the other lists bear various names Gonzaga, Strozzi, a Caterina from Naples, guests from Bologna etc. The list of the trousseau is curious, which includes skirts, aprons, various cloths and colored fabrics, but also two "painted" chests probably for the jewels.
