Title page with titles in red and black with printer's device. Contemporary handwritten notes on the white paper. Handwritten ex libris on the title page. Full-margin copy with some heavy browning, large stains and corrugated paper. Contemporary binding in full soft leather with handwritten titles on the spine. Fundamental work regarding Vico's treatment of Universal Law in which he re-establishes the primacy of philosophical truth, before Catholic truth, of Natural Law. In it he sets out the relationship between natural law and positive law as a relationship between the true and the certain; Vico also underlines the difference between the "voluntas regis" and the "ratio legis", that is, between the will of the legislator concerning utilities and the conformity of the law to the nature of the thing concerning honesty, the latter being immutable and an "eternal thing".
