L’opera reca, sul retro, un cartiglio con la seguente annotazione manoscritta: “Questa riproduzione di stampa antica mi fu donata dal principe Borromeo nel 1935, in occasione della conferenza di Stresa tenutasi nel palazzo Borromeo, all’Isola Bella.”
Sul lato frontale compaiono le firme autografe di alcune delle principali figure politiche presenti all’evento: Ramsay MacDonald (Primo Ministro del Regno Unito), John Simon (Ministro degli Esteri britannico), Pierre-Étienne Flandin (Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri francese) e Pierre Laval (Ministro degli Esteri francese).
Specialist Notes
La Conferenza di Stresa, tenutasi tra l’11 e il 14 aprile 1935, fu un importante vertice diplomatico che vide riuniti Benito Mussolini, Ramsay MacDonald e Pierre Laval, con l’intento di rafforzare la cooperazione europea e opporsi alle ambizioni espansionistiche della Germania nazista guidata da Adolf Hitler.
