Specialist Notes

Very interesting manuscript from the late eighteenth century containing about a hundred different metrical compositions, mostly sonnets but also songs and odes, mostly of obscene, erotic and licentious subject matter. The area of relevance is northern, with several texts in Venetian dialect, but also with references to Cremona, Turin, Genoa etc. It would seem to be a nuptial anthology prepared for a young man about to get married, as usual introduced to the pleasures of sex through the obscene. From the few chronological references it is understood that it was written around 1792-'94. On the first pages there is mention of an Abbot Sappa, probably originally from Alessandria. Everything to be studied.
