Information

Florence, reprint by the heirs of Filippo Giunta of the 1506 edition, sd (dating no earlier than 1522). In 8°. Half parchment binding. Smooth spine with inserts. Sprayed cuts in red. Edition with 8 woodcuts in the text. Pencil marks.

Specialist Notes

The first topographical representation of Dante's Inferno is the work of Antonio Manetti: it was partially included in Cristoforo Landino's commentary on the Comedy and was then presented more extensively by Girolamo Benivieni in the appendix to the edition of the Comedy he edited and printed in Florence by Giunti in 1506. The one proposed here is a print of the Dialogue alone, without Dante's text and without typographical data, probably also Giunti, dating from 1522; it is accompanied by 8 woodcuts relating to the graphic representation of the Inferno.
