Specialist Notes
Extremely rare edition, much sought after, despite the typographical inaccuracies, as it represents the first of only three editions of the Comedy published in the seventeenth century, together with those printed in Venice and Padua in 1629.
This is a very small number of editions compared to previous centuries, which denotes a regressive trend in the fortune of Dante's work, destined to persist until the beginning of the eighteenth century. In this edition, which marks the return to typographic essentiality, being devoid of comments and illustrations, the title of "Vision" appears for the first time in place of Divine Comedy, which means "the complex of things that he saw in his mystical journey" (Scartazzini, Enciclopedia Dantesca, II, 2154). De Batines I, pp. 101-102; Mambelli, n. 53.
