Information
Venice, held by the heirs of Francesco Rampazetto: at the request of Giouambattista Marchio Sessa et fratelli, 1578. In 2°. Title with large woodcut illustration depicting Dante within a framed oval, numerous woodcut illustrations, three of which are large at the beginning of each canticle, woodcut headpieces and initials, Sessa's typographic device on the colophon and in other parts of the work, marginal and negligible foxing, perfect copy, 19th century red full calf binding with gold title on the spine.
Specialist Notes
Second edition of Sessa also called "del Nasone" because of the portrait of Dante on the frontispiece. It takes up the text of the Aldine edition of 1502 and combines for the first time the two authoritative commentaries of the Florentine humanist Cristoforo Landino and the Luccan scholar Alessandro Vellutello.
