Specialist Notes

The letter is addressed to his wife and C. declares to receive from her "twelve notes of Piedmontese funds for the sole purpose of bringing them with me to Turin to obtain the new coupons of the interests of which he is a first semester has already expired (...)." It is therefore a financial investment made by his wife, which Cattaneo undertakes to repay with the due interest accrued. The total amount is 1338.50 francs, as can be read on the reverse of the first card. In the following, of great historical interest is the note always handwritten and signed by Cattaneo, relating to his will: "In any case, I, the undersigned, declare with this will written and signed by my own hand a terms of the law of my country that my beloved wife Anna nee Pyne Woodcock is my sole heir. Such is my will. By faith Doctor Carlo Cattaneo of Milan now professor in the Lyceum of Lugano."
Historian, economist and politician. (Milan 1801 - Castagnola, Lugano, 1869), Cattaneo participated in the Five Days of Milan; Republican and federalist, he however had to give way to the pro-Piedmontese moderates and in 1848 he retired to Paris and then to Switzerland. One of the eminent figures of the Lombard Risorgimento.
