Information
Rome, Venanzio Monaldini, 1788. In folio. Title page printed in red and black lettering with illustrated vignette engraved in copper. A figured drop cap with cherub and figured vignette surmounted by a prelate's hat, several signed engraved headers. This is followed by 26 full-page numbered plates finely engraved in copper by Berrettini, plate 26 is missing. Some light foxing, small tear on plate 23. Contemporary parchment binding with title and author's name on the spine, spray cuts.
Specialist Notes
In his introduction Petraglia provides a history of the engraved plates, attributing them for the first time to Luca Ciamberlano, whose monogram appears on plates I and IV. The plates in this edition are much simpler than those of the first edition of 1741.
