In Naples, at the expense of Michele Stasi, 1779. 4th, coat of arms of the Confessor of Queen Maria Carolina Antonio Bertrando Curtler, to whom the work is dedicated, pp. XII-166, figurative initials. Slight blooms, light browning. Contemporary full parchment binding, gold title on the spine.
Specialist Notes
Extremely rare work. In 1779, Michele Stasi, Filangieri's publisher and active protagonist of the Neapolitan cultural renewal of those years, in contrast with his ideas, published this book "Della Filosapria nuova", a fiercely anti-Enlightenment work in defense of scholastic philosophy threatened by fashion. Attached are a marginal note and four contemporary manuscript sheets containing equally ferocious replies and comments from an anonymous man of letters of the time. Bertrand Gurthler was a leading figure of Jansenist ecclesiastical reformism and co-protagonist of Maria Carolina's political operations in field of cultural heritage and the circulation of Jansenist and Masonic ideas which left the scene before those same reform demands resulted in the reaction of the 1990s.
