Vicenza, Giacomo de Franceschi, 1617. In 2nd. Frontispiece with large woodcut vignette, illustrated with numerous wood-engraved illustrations, 11 of which are double-page, light browning, more intense on a few leaves, light foxing, rare small stains, traces of humidity on the internal margin of the first installments, light foxing water on the external margin, contemporary full leather binding, plate framed in gold and embossed, spine with 7 bands with title embossed in gold, small defects on the caps, some peeling, slight defects.
Specialist Notes
Carlo Theti, also known as Carlo Teti, born in 1529 in Nola and died in 1589 in Padua, was a renowned architect, engineer Italian military and theoretician. After studying mathematics at the University of Naples, he specialized in the architecture of fortresses, earning the respect of the powerful of the time.
Thetis was at the service of the Roman nobles Colonna and of Emperor Maximilian II of Austria, contributing to significant projects in Hungary. In Italy, he worked with the Savoys in Turin, the Este family in Ferrara and the Medici in Florence, with contributions evident in the fortresses of Bergamo and Verona in northern Italy.
