Specialist Notes
Giuseppe Maria della Margarita maintained the role of commander of the artillery in Turin, proving to be one of the most active defenders of the city besieged in 1706. On this occasion he entrusted his nephew Giuseppe Amico di Castell'Alfero with the task of coordinating the activity of the artillerymen with that of miners and engineers.[2]A profound knowledge of the language and Latin, Solaro attempted literary experiments several times; what he wrote about the siege, with the title of Journal Historique du Siege de la Ville et de la Citadelle de Turin l'Année 1706, represents one of the most faithful testimonies of the development of war and civil events, but the author did not recognize it nor he never signed, also because at the time of printing, which took place in Amsterdam in 1708, the volume presented glaring errors not present in the manuscript version.Notes
