Specialist Notes
Second edition of one of the most important civil engineering works of the eighteenth century. The plates, engraved by the best Roman engravers, including Giuseppe Vasi and Alessandro Specchi, based on drawings by Carlo Fontana, Francesco Rostagni and Pietro Leone Ghezzi, all present a very high quality of drawing, with realistic and documentary intentions. In addition to the description, with relative engravings, of the works carried out by D. Fontana for the transport of the Obelisk which is located in P.zza S. Pietro, three famous tables depict wooden ladders with elements and extensions used in S. Pietro by the " festajoli" on ceremonial occasions. Brunet V, 1515: "ouvrage curieux et fort recherche"; Cicognara 968: "[Zabaglia] was approximately in Rome, what Ferracina was in Bassano"; Riccardo II, 632; Lipsticks 11489.
