Specialist Notes
Definitive edition and last edition edited by the author before his death in the same year. The "De jure naturali et gentium", published for the first time in 1672 is the most important work of Samuel Pufendorf (Flohe 1632 - Berlin 1694). Although violently attacked by theologians and conservatives, the work was for the secular and bourgeois classes of the 17th and 18th centuries what Karl Marx's "Manifesto" was for the working class in the 19th century.
