Venice, Heirs of Vincenzo Valgrisi, 1573. In folio, (90cc), 971 pp; (6cc). Title page with imprint (Snake coiled around a Tau-shaped stick supported by hands emerging from clouds. Inscription: Vincent), colophon a c 4M6r. Woodcut initials, woodcut illustrations in the text, coeval full vellum binding, restored spine, handwritten title on the spine, edges in red.

Uncommon vernacular edition of the most renowned Renaissance herbarium, famous commentary on the original text of the first century scientist Dioscorides. to. C. Of fundamental importance for the great success of this work was its formulation of a practical treatise for daily use by herbalists, doctors and alchemists, who could find precise descriptions and recipes for the use of medicinal plants, in addition to Greek and Latin names and synonyms, and their equivalents in other languages. Pietro Andrea Mattioli (1500-1577), was the most famous phytographer of the Renaissance: he examined hundreds of medical plants, many mentioned for the first time, providing a morphological description of rare perfection and beauty.
