Typographic brand on the title page, numerous drop caps and 35 graceful xyl headers. (1/3 of a page) that frame the topic of each song. Signs of extinct woodworm on the white inner margin of some pages. Full parchment binding, gilt titles on spine.
Specialist Notes
Francesco Bracciolini (1566-1645), native poet of Pistoia, was first in the entourage of the princes of Sulmona in Naples, then for six years together with Cardinal Federico Borromeo in Milan and finally secretary of Maffeo Barberini (who became Pope Urban VIII ) in Rome and France. The famous poem concerns the repurchase, by the emperor Heraclius, of the wood of the Cross which had fallen into the hands of the Persians. First edition of the definitive draft in thirty-five cantos. Cf. Piantanida, 2734; Gamba, 1818.
