Specialist Notes
FIRST RARE EDITION of the Canzoniere with the commentary by Alessandro Vellutello, who had immense success in the 16th century reaching, in Venice alone, 28 editions, printed by Giolito, Grifio and many others. This Petrarchan commentary, preceded by a Life of Petrarch full of first-hand news, taken from the poet's works and even from research carried out in Avignon, is by far the most important work that Vellutello has left us. Brunet IV, 548: “rare”; leg 714; Graesse V, 226.
