Specialist Notes
First edition of this splendid baroque book, one of the few copies not to have been trimmed. This is the first treatise dedicated entirely to the study of shells and molluscs, consisting of a textual volume divided into two parts and a volume of elegant tables describing a total of 439 shells, bound in a single tome. In the first part of the text Filippo Bonanni (1638-1725), Italian Jesuit, biologist and scholar, is dedicated to the general characteristics, in the second part the specifics of each shell are described: shape, colour, name and sea where it was found.
