Specialist Notes
Original edition of the most famous work by the Bolognese writer and historian Pellegrino Antonio Orlandi (1660?1727). The Abcedario is a very long list of artists whose main biographical data and works performed are reported. A veritable "ABC" of painting, it was reprinted in 1719 "corrected and augmented with many professors and other information pertaining to painting". The engraved plates show the numbers and brands used by the engravers of the prints. Cicognara 2129: This work was drawn from all the biographical works with great care and became the most convenient source of such news".
