Title page printed in red and black type, drop caps decorated in red and black by Louis Benoît, with the 28 original etchings in double suite by Joseph Titz, sporadic flourishes, illustrated editorial cover preserved in elegant binding SIGNED "Iseux", the successor of Thierry-Simier, in blue morocco with marbled paper inserts on the plates, spine with 5 raised bands with title compartments and floral friezes in gold, gilded upper edge.

First illustrated edition of this famous work by Georges Rodenbach (1855-1898). Refined artist's book, one of the 200 numbered copies printed on vélin du Marais with the etchings in two states, copy no. 178.
