Engraved frontispiece depicting the animals of the fables, frontispiece in red and black, preface by Athanasius Kircher, facing Hebrew text with the Latin translation, burnishing, coeval full parchment binding.
Specialist Notes
The collection, called the Hebrew Aesop, consists of 108 apologues inspired by the Arab tradition of Pancatantra and the corpus of Aesopian fables. Introduced by a learned preface by Kircher, the volume explicitly reveals its function as a school aid for learning the Hebrew language.
