Venice, Girolamo Albrizzi, 1698.In 2° (345 x 240 mm), 1 panel with the portrait of the Archduke of Austria, dedicatee of the work, copperplate engraving outside the text, woodcut Jesuit emblem on the title page, woodcut illustrations depicting coats of arms, lapidaries, etc. in the text, title page and first leaves with reinforcements and restorations, shortages, defects, woodworm holes on some paper, stains, p.143 with worn edges, last issue reassembled, original parchment binding, stains, tear at the hinge. Ownership signature on title page.
Specialist Notes
First edition of this important and monumental work on the history of Trieste from its foundation to 1000, in a copy with full margins in beards. The Author [born Giovanni Maria Manarutta (Trieste 1625 - Venice 1713)], a Discalced Carmelite, lived in the convents of Venice and Padua, with frequent stays in his hometown. His work was printed in Venice at the expense of the Trieste municipality and some private citizens, but despite the title it stopped in the year 1000. ; a second part, which reached up to 1702, saw the light only in 1881 in the city of Trieste.
