Specialist Notes
Original edition of this work which, born to complete the "Histories" cycle, opens with the story of the Cambraic war and goes up to the wedding of Louis XII with Maria Tudor (1514); it concerns almost entirely the history of Italy, and is narrated by the author, as he himself boasts several times, in the special capacity of eyewitness, a condition that enabled him to portray from life "the successes and occurrences" of many stables, especially of a military nature.
