Specialist Notes
Rare original edition. The work was also reprinted in Naples in 1842. Dragonetti's work summarizes the whole history of the dispute between the Bourbon state and the baronage and remains the most important document on the matter. Its purpose was to dismantle the arguments of the defenders of the barons, in particular of the Sicilian ones, who, basing themselves on a widespread interpretation of the Volentes chapter, believed that they were not, in the event of a lack of heirs, subject to the restitution of the feud to the state , but to be able to sell it without problems. Dragonetti, believing that the dispute had arisen, above all, from a series of forcing of the law, tackled the problem from the historical point of view. On the basis of ancient and modern sources, he thus reconstructed the birth of the feuds and their introduction in Italy and in the Kingdom with particular attention to the political events of Sicily, demonstrating a profound historical and legal knowledge.
