The work describes the journeys undertaken through the Ancient Kingdom of Naples by the count Ulisse de Salis Marschlins in the company now of the abbot Fortis, now of the Archbishop of Taranto Monsignor Capecelatro, now of others, in the year 1789. De Salis, a famous economist and man of letters, crossed the Terra di Lavoro, Puglia, the Principality Citra, Basilicata, Abruzzi and Molise describing the physical and natural beauties of the towns crossed, the methods of cultivation of the land, the agricultural and industrial resources, the road system, the feudal rights, the relations between peasants and barons etc., giving a faithful picture of life in the kingdom at the end of the 18th century.
