The first three volumes (10 volumes) tell the story from the fall of the Empire to the death of Alboin; the fourth volume includes 5 volumes of the "Lombard diplomatic code" (a collection of documents relating to that period) and a volume of appendix to the code, in our copy divided into two parts.
