In 1933 the Regia Aeronautica was the protagonist of the greatest aeronautical enterprise of all time: we are talking about the Atlantic flight organized by Italo Balbo. The team left on July 1, 1933 from Orbetello (GR), flew over Europe, Northern Europe, Iceland, Montreal (Canada), Detroit, Chicago and landed on July 12, 1933 in New York. An exuberant welcome followed. and warm, on July 21, 1933 in New York. The English newspaper Times wrote: "The enterprise of Balbo and his men is the most gigantic in the history of aeronautics".
