Rome, n.d. (but second half of the 19th century). Album in 16th oblong containing 50 photographs, "Cabinet" format, in colored gelatin, depicting Roman and surrounding popular costumes, portraits of Leo XIII and Umberto I of Savoy, court dignitaries of the Vatican State and soldiers of the Italian army. Coeval full parchment binding from Enrico Anderson's workshop, spine decorated in gold, on the plates series of concentric gilded frames that enclose the title.
Specialist Notes
Antonio D'Alessandri, a priest from L'Aquila, was an excellent photographer, essentially a portrait painter of the Roman nobility and the Papal Court until 1870. He was active in Rome from 1856 to 1865 with a studio in Via del Babbuino, later in Via del Corso and finally from 1890 in Via Condotti.
