Information
Padua, Pietro Bertelli, 1607. In 2 °. Elaborate engraved architectural title page, with 42 engraved copper plates describing numerous types of work machines, rare light blooms, contemporary parchment binding, author and title in gold within a smooth spine, some slight defects. & Nbsp;
Specialist Notes
First edition. Published by Francesco Bertelli's father, Pietro. Both were active as publishers and engravers, and Pietro may have engraved these plates, which derive from an unpublished Treaty of Architecture by the Sienese architect-engineer Francesco di Giorgio Martini (1439 - 1501). The work is known for containing the first illustration of a giant mill for collecting silk filaments and transforming them into fabric, and for spreading the knowledge of mangalo. Berlin Katalog 1775; Norman 2281; & nbsp; Riccardi I, 669.
