Specialist Notes
The translation by Cristoforo Landino, published for the second time in this edition, represents an important testimony of the recovery of classical authors in the Humanistic age. The precious code of the Naturalis Historia, & nbsp; today preserved in the Laurentian Library in Florence, was in fact purchased in Lübeck by Cosimo the Elder and entrusted to Cristoforo Landino for the translation into the vernacular, published for the first time in 1476. The text is divided into 37 Books (the index which constitutes the first book was completed by his nephew Pliny the Younger) concerning: description of the universe, geography and ethnography of the Mediterranean Sea, anthropology, zoology, botany and agriculture, medicine and medicinal plants, medicines derived from animals, mineralogy.
