Lyon, Anisson & amp; Posuel, 1697. In 2. 2 vols. in a tome. Typographical mark on the two frontispieces, 134 finely engraved copper plates depicting vessels and 11 plates of geometric figures, fine chalcographic figured headboards and initials, some halo, some browning, coeval binding in spotted leather, titles and friezes in gold on the back , marbled and sprayed cuts, injury to the hinge, partially detached front plate, a halo to the plate. Ex libris nobiliare on the counterplate.
Specialist Notes
First edition of these two interesting treatises on naval warfare and ship building. Of particular interest are Hoste's proposals on the rules for flag signals and his application of mechanical and hydrodynamic principles to ship construction.
