Specialist Notes
In his thriving studio, the French anatomist and physiologist Jean-Baptiste Sarlandière (1787-1838) successfully introduced the use of electroacupuncture by combining oriental acupuncture with electricity and dealing with this therapeutic technique, innovative for European medicine, rheumatic, nervous and respiratory disorders. He was responsible for the invention of the "bdellomètre", a mechanical blood pump, intended to produce a controlled evacuation of blood from the human body to replace the bloodletting operated by leeches which had become increasingly scarce and consequently increasingly expensive.
