Specialist Notes
The work, which ends with the death of Lorenzo the Magnificent, aims to refute Giovio and is marked by harsh anti-Medicean spirits. It was precisely the Brutus' harsh criticisms of the Medici that, when it saw the light, Cosimo I had it destroyed as many copies as he could, persecuting the author. The Brutus (Venice, c. 1515 - Gyulafehervár, Hungary, c. 1594) was a traveler, humanist and historian.
