Specialist Notes
Beautiful example of the "Novella Italia" map, the first modern map depicting the peninsula based on Florentine cartographic knowledge of the Renaissance. & nbsp; Attributed to Francesco Rosselli. & Nbsp; & nbsp; The paper, undated and unsigned, was published in the edition of "Ptolemy's Geography in third rhyme", edited by the humanist Francesco Berlinghieri and published in Florence by Niccolò Todesco, undated on the frontispiece. & nbsp; Certainly the work must have been finished in 1480, because a printed copy was sent as a gift, with an autograph dedication to Sultan Mohammed II, dated Florence 1480. The title of the work was "Geographia di Francesco Berlinghieri fiorentino in third rima et in Tuscan language distinguished with its tables in various sites and provinces according to the Geographia et distinctione of the tables of Ptolomeo. Cum gratia et Privilegio ". Four new tables are included in the work, namely "Novella Italia", "Hispania Novella", "Gallia Novella" and "Palestina Moderna et Terra Sancta". The first modern maps of the respective countries. The cards are not the work of Berlinghieri.
