Milan, Pulini al Bocchetto, 1812. In 12th. Burnishing, half of the volume with loss of part of the white outer margin, binding in waiting paper. § Luigi Lamberti. Description of the paintings in good fresco by Mr. Cavaliere Andrea Appiani in the throne room of the Royal Palace in Milan. Milan, Royal Printing House, 1809. In 8 °. Contemporary binding in long-grained green Moroccan, gold frame on the plates with fillet and geometric motifs, gold title on the spine, golden cuts.
Specialist Notes
III work: First edition of the description of the paintings by the neoclassical painter Andrea Appiani (1754-1817) in the throne room of the Palazzo Reale in Milan. For the occasion, these librettos were distributed among all those present, with the text in Italian and French, which found praise "worthy of the pictorial work", but also the ferocious criticism of Foscolo who was present. After the bombings of 1943 many of the frescoes were damaged or destroyed and that is why today this description appears to be a precious testimony. Cicognara 1269; Hoepli 1271; Predari, p. 438.
