Original edition, rare. Daniello Bartoli (Ferrara, 1608 - Rome, 1685) was a Jesuit, erudite writer and Italian historian. In 1650 he was appointed historian of the Compagnia del Gesù which he entered at the age of 15. He devoted himself with lively fervor to the activity of a preacher and was an outstanding scholar, tirelessly active. The intense and tenacious intellectual commitment allowed him to compose numerous works, all printed in Rome where he lived permanently, ranging with equal skills between grammatical, historical, moral and rhetorical topics. His prose style was greatly appreciated by Tommaseo, Leopardi, Carducci. Even in the scientific field he studied and described phenomena of acoustics and mechanics and was not afraid to praise Galileo although he was condemned. & Nbsp;
