Specialist Notes
First and only edition of this fascinating book printed in a few copies, probably 30, intended for the as many participants in the carnival party in costume on sledges that took place in Vicenza in the winter of 1784 (Barbarani, Trissino, Verlate, Vello, Caldogne, Burri, Bissari and others). The sleds are pulled over the snow by harnessed horses; a reference from 1 to 30 refers to the name of the passenger indicated in the index of the "most ornate knights". The bibliography of Melzi identifies the noble Arnaldo Tornieri as the author of this delightful libretto, who appears in the last panel on a sled attached to a large aerostatic balloon; in the same year as the first Italian aerostatic experiments. For this remarkable curiosity the work is cited by Caproni-Bertarelli on p. 111. The bibliographies of feasts and the catalogs consulted are missing. Extremely rare.
