Modena, Ducal Printing House, 1786. In 4th. Exemplary in beards, woodcut vignette on the title page, dedication to the Marquis Gherardo Rangone, 1 large panel folded several times engraved by Francesco Rosaspina depicting the shells from which the purple is obtained, woodworm work in the inner margin of a few cards, some slight halo, tear with small loss at K1, coeval binding in marbled cardboard, manuscript author and title on the spine, defects. Paper bookplate on the title page.

The treatise by Michele Rosa (1731-1812), a scholar of zoology and physiology, is a historical and scientific excursus of the molluscs from which purple and its applications in the clothing of the ancient world are derived.
