Specialist Notes
Fascinating suite of etchings depicting masks and popular subjects by the painter and engraver Giovanni David (1743 - 1790), executed during the artist's Venetian period which took place under the protection of Giacomo Durazzo, imperial ambassador to Venice. & nbsp; most of the David's engravings were published by his patron Giacomo Durazzo in Venice and are pervaded by the theatricality and sophistication that characterized the culture of the Venetian city in the century. XVIII. The Divers Portraits series was strongly inspired by Goya's suite of satirical engravings, Los Caprichos, both for the themes, the composition and the innovative use of aquatint. & Nbsp;
