Information
Paris, Didot, Barrois, Onfroy, Barrois and Delaine jeune, 1785. In 4th. 2 vols. Intaglio weapons on the title pages, supplementary title page on vol. I engraved by Montulay, 72 plates out of text engraved in copper by Tilliard after Monnet and 24 engraved summaries, light blooms, reddening, and browning on some paper, elegant mottled brown calfskin binding, embossed decoration in gold, plates framed by triple frame fillet, 5-rib spine with title and floral irons in the compartments, golden cuts, some scratches and peeling, slight lacks. To the counterplate ex-libris "Lichtensteiniaris".
Specialist Notes
Valuable edition printed under the direction of Pierre-Francois Didot jeune with the new typefaces of his foundry, on papier velin d'Annonay and with the beautiful engravings made by Tilliard on the drawings of Charles Monnet. Monnet's drawings were exhibited at the Salon of 1771. The copy belonged to the Princes Liechtenstein . Cohen-de-Ricci 384-85:. "Fine edition fait to contain the suite of figures of Monnet et Tilliard"; Brunet II, 1215.
