Specialist Notes
La prima bussola a liquido è del 1813 e permetteva di ridurre al minimo l'attrito e le oscillazioni, soprattutto nel caso di piccoli battelli in balia delle onde. Henry Browne and Son Ltd è stata fondata da Henry Browne (Sussex 1842 - Barking 1935) ed è stata una tra le più importanti aziende inglesi di produzione di strumentazione scientifica, in particolare bussole. Il design delle bussole prodotte da Henry Browne and Son Ltd è stato utilizzato da molte navi alleate durante la seconda guerra mondiale.
