Specialist Notes

A high-quality edition by Luchtmans, edited by Pieter Burmann (1668–1741; Professor of History and Eloquence at Utrecht and Leiden), of the classical poem composed in Latin by Gaius Valerius Flaccus (a Latin poet who lived in the 1st century AD during the time of Vespasian) on the myth of Jason and the Golden Fleece; this edition contains, from p. 684 onwards, the "Reliquum octavi libri ex Apollonio Rhodio, Pio Bononiensi auctore", that is, the sequel to Flaccus's unfinished work, and also includes numerous notes on Flaccus's work, additions, supplements, and detailed indexes.
