Specialist Notes
This original edition of this historical work is a rare and in-depth study of the chorography and history of San Marino, from its origins to the first documentary attestations from the 11th century, up to an analysis of the early 19th-century form of government. The text is preceded by a dedication "to the General Prince Council of the RSM and to the Captains Regent thereof" made by the author in Milan on 20 March 1804, followed by a notice to the reader and a preface; at the end of the text is an extensive "Appendix of diplomas and other monuments cited in the work". Melchiorre Delfico (1744-1835), an Abruzzese philosopher and politician, an Enlightenment thinker, took part in the Neapolitan revolution of 1799 and wrote legal, historical, and philosophical works during his exile in San Marino.
