Specialist Notes

An interesting collection of three political treatises by Guicciardini, in its second edition (reprint of the original, dated 1583). The volume contains the dedicatory letter to Sir William Parry (To the Illustrious Lord, Mr. William Parry, a British nobleman), written in Venice on 15 April 1583 by Francesco Sansovino. This is followed by the index, then Guicciardini's Political Notices, Lottini's Civil Notices and Sansovino's Political Concepts. Francesco Guicciardini (1483–1540) was an Italian historian and statesman (diplomatic advisor to both the Papacy and the Florentine Republic and the Medici family). Francesco Tatti da Sansovino (1521–1586) was a versatile Italian scholar and man of letters, also known as a publisher. Giovanni Francesco (Giovanfrancesco) Lottini (1512-1572) was an Italian politician, writer and Catholic bishop.
