Specialist Notes

A very rare original edition of this important, richly illustrated historical and architectural account of the Tor di Nona Theater, Rome's largest public theater before its destruction in 1889. Felice Giorgi was the papal architect who rebuilt it after the fire that destroyed Domenico Gregorini's previous structure in 1781. This theater, one of the architectural masterpieces of late 18th-century Rome, saw the premieres of numerous operas by major composers such as Rossini, Mercadante, Donizetti, Verdi, and others.
