Venice, Giovanni Zenaro, 1597. In 8 °. Typographic mark on the title page, numerous woodcut illustrations in the text, light browning, slight halo at the upper outer corner, rare and light blooms, restoration at the lower corner of b2, reinforcement at the outer margin of 2B2, woodworm work at the outer white margin E3 onwards, small gap in the outer white margin of 2G-2H7, some restorations at the outer margin, in particular of the last two issues, missing last white paper, modern green binding.

Specialist Notes

Work of the Portuguese physician and botanist, first published in Goa in 1563. The second part contains a translation of the work of Nicolas Monardes. The author was sent in 1534 as court physician to the Portuguese Indies, where he remained for about thirty years dedicating himself to the study of medicinal plants. He was the first to study cholera in those countries, he also studied snake venoms and became involved in physiotherapy. Sabin 57669; Durling 3421; Wellcome I, 4661.
