Basel, Bartholomaeus Westheimer, 1541. In 8th. Initials and woodcut friezes, letterpress mark on the reverse of the last card, rare glosses and underlinings of an ancient hand, very slight blooms and reddening, small and light halo at the outer margin of the last cards, coeval binding in rigid parchment, author and title imprinted in gold within gusset on the back with paper gusset, marbled red cuts.

Ficino Marsilio (Figline Valdarno 1433 - Careggi 1499) is the most important philosopher of Renaissance Platonism, founder of the Platonic Academy in Florence, known for his prestigious translation and commentary on Plato's work. This treatise, inspired by Galen, focuses on the health of the body: it intertwines medicine, astrology and magic, combining dietary indications, medical advice, remedies for diseases with observations on the influence of the stars on the life and health of human beings.
