Specialist Notes
Facsimile reproductions in French and German of an illuminated medical manual, among the richest and most complete of the medieval era. The tacuinum is inspired by the well-known manual of the Arab doctor Ibn Butlan, active in Baghdad in the century. XI. The term "notebook" itself derives from the Arabic Taqwīm al‑ṣiḥḥa, or health tables.
