Giuseppe Baretti (Turin, 24 April 1719 - London, 5 May 1789), was an Italian literary critic, translator, poet, writer, playwright and linguist. The 'Literary Whip' was a fortnightly periodical founded in Venice in 1763; it was directed and written almost entirely by the writer Giuseppe Baretti.
